The
Darebin Enterprise Center Ltd, in conjunction with The Department
of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR), has
joined forces to positively increase the number of Indigenous
people in employment within the Northern suburbs with its Step
in the North Project.
“Step
in the North” will be looking to link
in with businesses, job networks, Indigenous organizations, and
Indigenous people within the northern and surrounding
suburbs.
What
is STEP?
STEP or
Structured Training & Employment
Projects
STEP encourages
employers to employ Indigenous Australians when a vacancy opens
up.
STEP brings together
Indigenous Australian job seekers with employers in private
industry and also community and government organisations that can
provide training and long-term jobs. The key criterion is
that the participant’s job must be on-going after the funding
period has finished.
STEP offers a tailored
package of assistance to meet your business needs and maximize
opportunities for Indigenous jobseekers.
Funding is
flexible and could include:
•
Support to develop an Indigenous employment strategy
•
Pre-employment and formal training that helps job seekers
transition to identified jobs
•
Wage Assistance
•
Delivery & development of cross cultural awareness training
packages for other staff
•
Mentoring and career development training
•
Marketing and other initiatives to facilitate the supply of
suitable job seekers
